Orange weather alert today in Emilia Romagna, yellow in Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Marche, Campania, Lazio, Molise, Puglia and Sicily. The Civil Protection, due to bad weather, has issued a series of weather warnings in various Italian regions in the last few hours. This is because today, and also tomorrow, heavy rains and heavy thunderstorms are expected over half of Italy. The forecasts also tell of the possibility of many lightning strikes, especially in Emilia.
The weather alert of the Civil Protection
Based on the available forecasts, the Civil Protection Department, in agreement with the regions involved – which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned – has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions. The weather phenomena, impacting on the various areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin which can be consulted on the Department website (www.protezionecivile.gov.it).
regions at risk
The perturbation affecting Italy is bringing scattered rainfall over most of the national territory. The low pressure area, moving towards the southern Tyrrhenian Sea, will cause widespread and persistent rainfall over Emilia-Romagna in the next few hours and, more intermittent, but of a downpour or thunderstorm nature, over most of the southern regions, in particular way over Calabria and eastern Sicily. So for today orange alert over most of Emilia-Romagna, yellow alert over the remaining sectors of Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Abruzzo, Molise, Campania and Calabria, southern Lazio and part of Basilicata, Puglia and Sicily.* 100007*
