The Olympic Sports Shooting World Cup began on Thursday at the shooting and leisure oaks club in El Arjat (suburb of Salé), with the participation of more than 360 shooters from 45 countries.
The athletes taking part in this competition, organized until the 24th current under the chairmanship of HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, President of the Royal Moroccan Sports Shooting Federation (FRMTS), will compete for the world title in the disciplines of Trap and Skeet, ladies, men, national teams and mixed teams. This event, placed under the aegis of the International Sports Shooting Federation (ISSF), is held in Morocco for the first time and brings together shooters representing the best sports shooting schools in the 4 continents (Africa, Europe, Americas and Asia ). This competition, included in the international agenda of the ISSF and whose results will count in the International Ranking, will see the participation of the best triggers in the world. Speaking at the opening ceremony of this prestigious competition, the Deputy President of the FRMTS, Abdeladim El Hafi indicated that the Sport Shooting World Cup is experiencing remarkable participation at the level of countries and athletes, including holders Olympic medals, world cup titles, and continental championships. This event, which is being held for the first time in the Kingdom, promises tough competition between the different shooters, he said, noting that the competition will be held in accordance with international standards in this area. The shooting and leisure oak club in El Arjat is an ISSF-approved space and meets all the criteria required to host this kind of competition, he continued, noting that the FRMTS has brought together all the technical, organizational and logistical conditions necessary to guarantee the full success of this World Cup. According to the FRMTS, the athletes who will defend the national colors during this World Cup have been selected taking into account their results and scores and their current state of preparation, in order to measure themselves against the world elite of sports shooting. In the women's Trap discipline, in addition to Marirhi Yasmina, bronze medalist at the Islamic Games of Konya 2022 and at the Grand Prix of the Emir of Kuwait, two young athletes will make their first entry into international competitions during this World Cup. They are Fatim Zahra Fadil and Samya Haouzane. When it comes to the Men's Trap discipline, hopes will be pinned on Haffari Driss, who caused a sensation at the Osijek 2022 World Championship, where he ranked 10th in the world, with a score of 120/125. In continuous preparation, he can confirm his performance during this competition, in the company of four promising young shooters, Alhrras Zouhair, Kaoukabi Jalal, Mesfioui Yahya and Moqtadir Redouane. In the women's Skeet discipline, Marirhi Ibtissam, African champion and first Moroccan shooter to qualify for the Olympic Games (Tokyo 2020), is an athlete who is progressing, regular in her performances and with solid international experience. This World Cup will be an opportunity to confirm the hopes placed in it. For his part, Nebaloui Mustafa, in the Men's Skeet, will be lined up against the favorites in the discipline. The opening ceremony of this World Cup took place in the presence, in particular, of the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa and the President of the ISSF, Luciano Rossi. It was also marked by the presence of the president of the Kuwaiti Federation and the Arab Sports Shooting Union, Douaij Al-Otaibi, the president of the African Confederation of Discipline, the Egyptian Hazem Hossni and the vice-president of the Moroccan National Olympic Committee, Kamal Lahlou, in addition to civil and diplomatic personalities.
